The Troll Pub at The Wheelhouse is located at 216 Wayne Ave which is an extenstion of the historic Oregon district east of downtown Dayton, OH. The building was first built in 1868 to become the Weustoff & Getz factory. In 1875 the building was incorporated into the Farmer's Friend manufacturing company which was the 3rd largest producer of agricultural implements in Ohio during the 1870's, and operated until 1895. The building was then transformed into the Stoddard Manufacturing Company / Stoddard Bicycle Company which sold around 40,000 units in the first 5 years of operation.
Moving forward a few years to 1904, the building was used as Dayton's first automobile manufacturer which began delivering cars. In 1905, the Kinsey Manufacturing Company called the building home until 1909, which manufactured parts to be sold to the Dayton Motor Company. From 1909 to 1912 the building then housed the Courier Car Company, a subsidiary of Stoddard, which produced 1000 automobiles in 1910 to compete with the Ford Model T.
Throughout the years and leading up to 2013 the building was home to a number of furniture and plumbing companies before the property was sold to the city of Dayton. In 2017, the building was purchased by a group of local investors with a vision to transform the property into apartments, retail space, and now the home for The Troll Pub at The Wheelhouse. We have repurposed wood taken from the ceiling to make table tops for our dining rooms, hand selected lighting from the early 1900's, and had custom chandeliers constructed out of old wagon wheels to pay homage to the Wheelhouse Building.
We hope you enjoy this Unique Dining Experience!
This is a very unique place with great atmosphere, food and service. From the moment we walked in until we left, we found interesting things to look at in this converted space, along with a great meal. Highly recommend!!
This was a neat little find. Great atmosphere. I had the hot brown. My husband had the beer cheese burger. Both were good.
We ordered the chicken tenders with french fries. The chicken was right out of the fryer. Very hot, tasty and huge portions. Some of the best chicken I have ate. We also ordered chipotle wings and a steak. We shared all 3 entrees. Good service and great atmosphere.
My husband and I stopped here for lunch over Memorial Day weekend. It is one of the most fun, unique buildings in Louisville for dining! I highly recommend taking a quick tour (if it isn't busy); it doesn't look like 6,000 sq feet but it is set underground with plenty of cool hallways, nooks, and crannies....
The troll pup has a super relaxed and chill vibe, full bar, and extensive menu. Since pub menus can be extensive but bland I went with something simple - grilled cheese and fries. I can say that it was, hands down, the absolute BEST pub meal I've had! I suggest anything on the menu that has their (original recipe) bacon jam. I had never heard of it, but it made the sandwich absolutely mouth-watering. The cheese and bread were of the highest quality, cooked to perfection, and the fries fresh, crisp, and delicious. The bartender, who was also our waiter (since we sat in the bar area), was prompt, friendly, informative, and funny. The next time we are in Louisville we will definitely be back! Until then, I'll be in my kitchen trying to recreate that bacon jam..... :-)
No only is this under the bridge but in the basement. A large space that is filled with fun and laughter. Our wait person was amazing. We had new arrivals all evening and they just added them in and served them with the same energy as the first to arrive.
I love this place! It just may be my new favorite place. Great scene.
